I need to transfer all the data on a Blue/White to a new G4. Will the Firewire Blue/White G3 boot into Firewire target mode? Would it be faster to tranfer files over an ethernet network?

Thanks for any answers in advance...

Here's the article from Apple. You won't be able to use the B&W as the host computer, but you should be able to connect to your G4 though.
How much do you need to transfer? Ethernet is fairly fast, and might be easier if you don't have too much to transfer.

You got that backwards......the B/W can act as the host. I do this all the time when I want to move large amounts of data off my ibook. Turn off the G4 and turn back on in target mode.

according to apple kb articles, the B&W G3 cannot go into firewire target disk mode. BUT you can hook another apple computer up to it if that computer is in firewire target disk mode. i put my ibook into firewire target disk mode and connect it to my B&W G3 and the ibook's HD shows up on the B&W's desktop as a firewire HD

Same here, I usually put my Pismo on FireWire Target Disk Mode with my B&W G3, so I can copy huge files from it to the B&W. Of course, it will be faster than Ethernet.
