Hi, I have an iMac G4 700 CDRW and an additional 512 mb chip in it. The problem is my apps started crashing and i even got a kernel panic on start up. First thing i did was to launch the Apple Hardware Test. It said 'post/16/1 DIMM0/J12'. And also displayed - in the section dedicated to this chip - that it couldn't distinguish whether it is a 256 or 512 mb chip (?). So, i took the chip out and the system runs well, although very slow because it has only 128 mb built-in memory. Now i put the chip back in and i got a kernel panic on start up again. But I simply restarted and now it booted well, but Mac OS X now display I would only have 384 (128 + 256) MB RAM.
Luckily I have a 10 year guarantee on this chip, so i'm about to exchange it.
Does anyone know the problem anyway or had similar problems?

- Thilo
