Hello, i chcked this forum, and some others but still i did not get an answer to this question...
I have an imac, graphite, 400 mhz and it worked just fine. Then, one dya, the image started to become skahy when i turned it on. This only happens if the resolution is 1024 x 900, 800 x 600 works just fine. Does anyone knows what is causing this? I changed the power outlet, checked if there was any magnetic fields around it, and nothing...
Well, i apreciate your help.

Well, those old iMac monitors can't exactly pull 1024x768 very well. But if it's really bad, it might be a bad analog board. Most iMacs had terribly unreliable analog boards, which is especially embarrassing when it happens to an all-in-one machine.

An iMac 400 will run 1024x768 at a more than acceptable 75Hz refresh rate. There may be some sort of magnetic interference going on. If you have unshielded speakers, or something like an electric pencil sharpener, electric fan, air conditioner, or electric stapler near the iMac, the magnetic field which they generate may interfere with the CRT's operation. A monitor is more sensitive to this interference at higher resolutions simply because more electrons are passing through its electron gun and onto the display so there are more electrons (and thus surface area) to be interfered with. I think interference is most likely the problem. Analogue/video boards do fail on iMac DVs from time to time but most often they fail suddenly, and they certainly don't continue to work at some resolutions and not others. Keep checking for possible magnetic interference.

Well i will try the magnetic field stuff. What is odd, though, is that i have this computer here in the same place for over a year, and nothing ever happened. Called some apple stores and they all said it was the analog board, i think it couldn't be since it works on other resolutions...

Well, i'll post the results, thanks for your help.
