Hey all, I finally got my first Mac!
Since I saw the new 17" PowerBooks in January, I've wanted one. However, I felt before I plop down over $4,000 for the 17" PB and display, I should try things out, see if I liked Mac OS X, etc. If all goes well, I'll probably sell it when/if I get a PowerBook.
So I picked one up (17" iMac) that got me a free USB floppy drive (when I'll ever use it, I have no idea), free printer, free RAM, and no sales-tax.
I must say, downloading a song from the iTunes Music store is slick, and being able to burn an audio CD, email, web, etc. all at the same time, was great.
I was even more surprised when the CD played without any skips!!! When I did that on my Windows PC, I had to stop EVERYTHING and slow down the CD-R drive speed to attempt to get by w/o skips. AWESOME!
I had some questions, but I'm at work at the moment, and can't remember. :-(
Thanks for the info that I gathered before making my purchase!

Congratulations and good luck with your purchase. I have been using Macs since 1994. My experiences for the most part have been positive and the people here have definitely been helpful to me at different points.
It's a very exciting time to be a Mac user. Mac OS X is truly a world-class operating system for the desktop. It keeps getting better and better. Us old hat mac users will remember a time when it seemed like the Mac OS was stuck in a state of stagnation, starting to fall by the wayside. Those days are long gone..
Using Macs almost completely in the my tasks, its easy to take for granted the advantages the platform has.
Well maybe I'm on a bit of the rant here, but I believe that you will be very happy with your system. As for $4k on a laptop, I'd be hesitant too.

Jake,
want to see something cool ?!?! Put in a cd that is a bit mangled, maybe it's playing bad in your cd machine or skipping, and import it to itunes. Now play it through itunes or sync it with your ipod and it will play flawlessly!! You can even reburn it and have a completely new, fully-repaired cd. pretty nice, eh?
I love this "corrective" feature that itunes has . . . I'm a huge fan. Especially when I lend my cds to friends and they come back to me looking like someone ate pasta off of them (rolls eyes).
happy mac-ing
