I believe I killed my QS motherboard recently in an attempt to move the system to another city using a cheapo-type cargo company...Since they don't cover liabilities for used equipment the only way out of this is to buy a replacement one. Anyone knows of any places where I can get one and rough cost figures? This is a QuickSilver G4/733 (no L3 cache).

Apple doesn't allow parts to be sold individually. You can bring it to an authorized Apple repair shop, but you won't find them for sale anywhere. It's possible you might find one on eBay, but I would ask A LOT of questions about it and make sure you get a guarantee that it will work.

I'm sure I've seen parts sales on the net somewhere in the past, can't remember where however

Google "PowerMac Parts" you'll find several choices that sell logicboards.

For example, I found this place that way:
