Can you not configure a new PowerMac to have a ZIP drive in the full size optical bays anymore? If so, where is the option? I don't see it.
Thanks.

The zip drive is dead nowadays. It was alive and kicking and cool and useful all at once back when it was 100 MB. But the new 750 MB drives are so loud and useless now.
Install a 52x CD-RW drive and buy a wholesale pack of 400 CD-Rs. The CD burner will be cheaper then a zip.

Have to agree for the most part but Zip disks (I have the 250MB) are easier to use...drag-and-drop...no burning.

So you can't configure a new PowerMac with a ZIP drive (100,250, or 750)???

I used to love zips...
but use a Kingsington 128 meg USB flash thing-a-ma-bob and find it MUCH easier to use.
Zip drives are from the last millenium. At one point up until like 2000 I would actually mail out zips to clients/service bureaus, and actually get them mailed back. But CD's are like 20 cents now...so its a different world.
I have I bet 200 zip disks minimum stored around here, (was sort of a expensive file back up system which worked for me anyhow).
I work on 6 macs constantly, and find the usb flash drive thingy to be the way to go. (or any brand really I guess, but I like the design of mine..way cool aluminum design about the size of a disposable cigarette lighter.
It is so fast for transfering somewhat large files between machines. I have a suspician that even larger size USB Flash Drives will come down the road as well.
anyhow.. my point ....my sincere recommendation is that you get a USB Zip drive (external) so that you can read all your zips down the road past the machine you are purchasing now.
I have a suspician I'll still be pulling files off my old zips for years and would want something I could use in the future.

Iomega does sell a retail Macintosh internal Zip 750 drive. It even comes with a modified MDD faceplate with a slot for the Zip drive in the lower bay.
