our new server is a 1,2G Dp with Superdrive.
As a server it will sit in a locked closet, useless.
Can I exchange it with the internal DVD of my 450M DP?

thanks

I was perhaps not clear enough in my explanation:
I wish to remove the superdrive from the MDD 1,25 and place it in the 450 DP.
And place the 450 DVD reader into the MDD G4.

Yes it is possible, though yolu might have to reinstall OS X.

You might be better off swapping the entire 1.25 for your 450!

The 1,25 is the new server in the company, certainly someone will notice if it is swapped with a 450....
-Reinstall OSX? why?

you shouldn't need to re-install anything. The only thing I think you should know is that the old DVD-ROMs that came with the G4s are one of less than a dozen model that does not read DVD-Rs...I was very dissappointed when I found that out
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

The 450 DP (dec. 2001) I have reads DVD-R/+RW, no problem.
So my 450DP should accept the superdrive.....

Ahh, in that case, just don't get caught! :-p My sawtooth was from Oct. 1999...man, this baby is OLD...(probably why as much as I love my Mac, my primary machine right now is a Tbird 1.4...oh, and winXP is just awful...but u should've already known that!)

Are you stealing the Superdrive or just borrowing it? Should have no problem swapping them.

I am swapping the drives because since the server will run headless in a closed room, there is no need for an expensive SuoerDrivve in it.
This is a logical policy in the company.
