i have a beige g3 (think rev. 2/B) and want to either upgrade my hard drive, add another one or do both, but am unsure what the drives are. . .seems one is scsi and rest are ide. is this the case, as i just looked at apple system profiler and seems that the built-in is ide/ata. any one know the case or where i can look to find it? thanks!!

I have the same g3 as you and added an 80gb HD and it couldn't have been scsi b/c that would have been tons of money and I got it a year ago and it was cheap.

Most of the Beige G3s use IDE drives (although some do have an internal SCSI connection) so you'd be fine getting a cheap IDE drive.

I'd recommend Western Digital (I have two in my Beige).

This is a simple proceedure as long as your Roms are not the old first version which did not support master/slave IDE drives on the same bus. You can get a HD at Staples or perhaps even Walmart - Maxton, Western Digital, IBM, all will work (I believe there is a limit of the bus on drives over 120GB). I Would suggest a 7200rpm drive as the speedup is noticeable. You will also need a cable with two end connectors and one in the middle - available at Radio Shack. Mac stuff at Radio Shack, Staples, Office Depot, and Walmart? Will wonders never cease.

THe Rev A (ATI Rage II+) do support slave drives, but in Mac OS X ONLY. Since almost everyone is in X now you shouldn't need to worry about the drive not working on Mac OS 9.
