I just picked up a PCI ATA66 controller card for real cheap for my Rev 1 B&W. (Rev 1 B&W's had iffy IDE controllers). It didn't come with any cables. I plugged it into a slot, and used the 2 channel ATA33 cable that was already there. Everything works fine and all my drives show up just like they did before.
The cable I'm using is a two channel IDE cable, and all the plugs are black. I've read that ATA66/100/133 cables are color coded blue-gray-black.
Even though everything works, am I missing out on speed becuse I might be using a slower ATA33 cable on an ATA66 bus?
How does Ultra ATA/66 attain those faster transfer rates?
Ultra ATA/66 removes bottlenecks associated with data transfers, especially during sequential operations. Ultra ATA/66 requires a special 40-pin, 80-conductor cable that reduces noise bleed-over and improves signal integrity by providing 40 additional ground lines between each of the standard 40-pin ATA signal lines and ground lines.
