If Modship is offered, I assume you must have the option to decline. Acceptance would indicate desire. Which blows your theory apart.

Hey,

Congrats, and richly deserved.

Even better if they pay you some money
But we know you love Macs, so we'll forgive them if you do it for love.

Oh, and BTW, if you're reading this, YES, I'm finally typing this from my NEW first ever MAC. YAY!

And your help and friendship in the matter was and is very much appreciated.

Congratulations once again

Best

Seriously, D'Espice, how did you get the job? Did the other mods scout you and asked you via PM?

Send large sums of money to the admins and other mods. You never know when a new mod might be needed.

I got the "job" (FYI: the pay is pretty low) because certain people asked me whether I was willing to help out.

I don't know why you guys think that being a mod is ubercool, it's just a bit more responsibility and sometimes work. And of course behavior, everybody can flame or swear except moderators and admins. However somebody who attracts our attention by flaming, spamming and in general trolling around will never become one of us anyway

rjenkinson: I am pure evil, I will even move, close and delete threads just for fun

Don't worry guys.

I can assure you that for 90% of us.. we wouldn't get chosen as mods if we were the single last person on earth (you knwo what I mean, if you were the only other person you wouldn't be a mod).

I realized that I wouldn't get any good out of posting here long ago either.

Seriously, I've spent my time here expecting to get a few worthy replies lately, I get flamed, harrassed, banned, everything.

Why bother. :|

So far MacNN has been one of my worst experiences ever. Why I post this post I have no idea.

I guess I get a little *TOO* bored at times.

But if you are posting here keep in mind you have things you could do that will be more worthy to you then posting at this dump.

ya know, when I think of that name D`, I recall him rather well.. but I get this awful feeling.

I dunno. Something isn't aligned right, he's a good guy but I smell a rat somewhere.

Then again the same is true about every single person who holds some sort of staff position on MacNN, I think of most all of them as 2-sided geeks: One side's friendly and the other's about to bite you in the ass.

Sorry to disagree MacZealot, but D-Espice is actually a very nice person, and methinks your comments seem a bit hasty and unfounded.

To be sure, there may be many reasons why somone may be asked to take on a moderators position, but coming across as seemingly a bit bitter, or perhaps jealous, and looking for conspiracy theories as appears to be the case in your post, is not going to win you friends.

Far be it for me to seemingly judge, and I don't want you to feel that I'm 'having a go at you' ; not at all, but I do feel that impuning the reputation of D-Espice is not really very fair, and as far as I can tell, completely unwarranted.

I applaud your right to express yourself as you wish, but I do disagree with you as regards your comments re D-Espice, and feel that I for one should comment, as he is obviously not in an easy position to respond himself.

I hope you take my remarks not as a 'put down' of you, but wish to 'defend' D-Espice and once again extend my congratulations to him.

Best Regards

Johnboi.

Well I don't think there's anything I can say about MacZealot's reproaches. It's ok that he's jealous and honestly, I don't care whether he hates my butt or not.

I've known him for some while but never knew that he didn't like me - especially since we used to talk a lot with each other on IRC back when he wasn't banned yet. I guess he bears hatred towards MacNN that he's trying to focus on one single person - me.

Congratulations D`Espice! I hope you have a successful time here. It's great to have an intelligent moderator on a forum.

Far too often have I been to places with moderators who are overly restricting.

Last of all, keep enjoying what you do!

no maybe he didn't do anything bad.

I just recall something along the lines of once I was banned he went the "I won't have anything to do with that scum" route like ricciadams did.

Actually if I ever saw ricciadams IRL, whether it be at a store or at a macworld expo, I'd be more then tempted to show him exactly what I think of him and give him a miserable time.

Your behaviour on #macnn more than justified the "I won't have anything to do..." attitude adopted by many channel regulars. Idle threats of physical damage are lame, dude. Grow up.

Billybob: you can check who moderates that on the forum mainpage, or at the top of the "Peripherals" page.

Firstly I have absolutely NO idea wtf you're talking about. Secondly your behavior on #macnn justified the ban as well as that kind of attitude you describe.

Seriously, I don't know what you're ranting about, if you have a problem with me then let's talk about it in private, not public.
