A question about upgrading memory .
Do I need to buy a low profile memory module for the bottom slot of a iMac DV 400 mhz ? Can I used a regular size memory module in the second slot ? I currently have 64 MB of ram in the first slot.
Is it a good idea to buy the memory module from compusa ?

No, your machine takes standard 168-pin PC100 SDRAM at both CL2 and CL3 latencies. It has two slots, each holding a maximum of 512mb, for a cumulative amount of 1024MB. Its very easy to install through a hatch in the underside of the computer. Older iMacs ranging from 233-333 mhz (up to rev "e") require the low-profile modules in the lower slot of their daughter or processor card. The cheapest place to get mac memory is usually OWC www.macsales.com .
Ramseeker.com should be able to find the best prices on the memory you need.

I recently purchased some cheap RAM from 1-800-memory.com. Just today I have been having problems with my computer restarting spontaneously. I know that it is very unlikely- but could this be the problem?

Cheap and/or bad RAM can cause a variety of problem.s If the spontaneous restarts started happening after you installed the RAM, I'm pretty sure the RAM is your problem. Try putting in your original RAM and see what happens.

Yeah, what bradoesch said, bad ram can mess up your system in interesting if sucky ways. I've gotten memory for my dv 400 from, hm, let's see, bestbuy and circuit city, i think the sticks are pry and centon ram or some such, they always have good deals on both brands.
i look in your general direction
