Currently, I have 256 MB RAM in my iMac 333 tray loading machine. Is it possible to install more? Could I put a 512 stick inside the machine in one of the slots?

Thanks

I don't know if you can put a one 512 MB chip into the 333iMac. There is something about the way the ram is put onto the chip or something about those kinds of chips that prevent the iMac from seeing it. Cash and I think the moderator can actually tell you why. You an install two 256MB, which I did and I went with a kit from I think 1800memory for 512 to ensure that both modules would work. I ran into the problem with the chip placement when I put my iBook chip onto the lower slot and it only saw 128, it was a 256. I don't know if anyone makes a 512 chip that works with this iMac. You might also consider whether or not you would even get a benefit with more than 512MB giving the other limiters of this iMac, i.e. gpu and sysbus.

yes. 256 mg sticks should be fine... i think the 333 imacs didn't need to worry about low-profile like the early imacs did, so any ol' 256 should work? Buy one and test it, if it works buy two.

I have a 256 low profile in my rev b.

now, whether 512 should work or not... try a search. I don't remember.

Yes, you still need one low profile. One vendor is selling a single 512 for this model. But you need a low profile and regular one or two low profile. Check out www.ramseeker.com and select iMac 233-333, they only list 256MB of ram, but once you go to the different vendors you can select the ram you need. Good luck.

I've been buying ram from Datamem.com since 1997 and have never had a problem. They are very Mac friendly. According to this page, it looks like your maxium total ram is 512MB. One low profile stick and one regular one, or two low profile.
