I just acquired a PowerMac 6500 and I encountered a weird problem... It won't read burned discs. I've tried several types of media including discs burned as standard iso's in windows and using finder burning on other macs and the drive just ejects the disc before it can mount. This drive appears to read pressed cd's fine... Any ideas? Or is the drive just OLD....

Also, this 6500 system is a 250 mhz 603ev based computer with 32mb ram. I was wanting to hand it down to a relative, but it's almost too slow to do any "web surfing" on. If I were to upgrade the memory to 96, would that speed up the system enough to make it bearable?

Upgrade the memory, it'll make quite a difference.

The 6500 CD-ROM drive is not multi-read, so will not read a CD-RW.

It will read CD-R's, though. Use decent media, not crappy stuff, for a start.
