My new eMac is a dream, but CAN NOT BOOT INTO OS9?

Do I need to go back to my OS9 install CD to get a bootable folder on the eMac? Am I just left with being able to launch Classic, without actually booting into OS9?

I have Virtual PC v3.0, and it requires a boot into OS9 to run.

Any help appreciated.

If you check the eMac tech specs, OS 9 booting is available on the CD and Combo drive models; if you got a Superdrive model, you're going to be using X only.

The tech specs say that the SuperDrive model will run OS9 apps in Classic mode. Does this REALLY mean that you CAN"T boot into OS9 on this machine????? I can't imagine what the hardware issue is that prevent you from booting into OS9, but would be very interested in being educated!

As others have already pointed, out, yes, you CANNOT boot into OS 9 if you've got a SuperDrive-equipped model.

Apple stopped almost all of the newer machines from booting into OS 9 earlier this year. There are a few powermacs that are able, but you are out of luck on your eMac. If you still need to go OS 9 natively, you probably should have gotten an older powermac and upgraded it the speed you require.

If you need to use Virtual PC, you'll need to upgrade to the latest version.

Sorry,

I believe the lower end eMac's are OS9 bootable. It seems odd that they all have Airport extreme and the only difference between the 1GHz machines is one has a combo drive and the other has a Superdrive. So what is so special about the Superdrive model??? (Other then its lacking this feature)
I have to admit, that I think doing this was a mistake on apple's part. Especially if the eMac is designed for schools/education.
