I'd like someone to clarify for me. I was thinking about replacing my Radeon (OEM Mac) in a G4 533 with the 4MX 32MB from OWC. What looks to be the same card from MegaMacs.com says that it has 32MB per channel. MegaMacs also has a 64MB 4MX. Is the 32MB card really 32MB per channel or 16MB per channel. I have a 2MX Twinview in my Dual 800 that I might replace with the 4MX if the performace is better. I know that it 32 MB per channel. My main reason to upgrade is Quartz Extreme not gaming. I want to move the Radeon to my Cube to replace the Rage.

So should I buy the 32MB 4MX and put in my dual, move the 2MX to the 533, and the Radeon to my Cube, or should I just put the 4MX in the 533?

For that computer, the video card you have is fine and getting anything "MX" is not much of an improvement, if any at all. Your powermac is old enough so that really any newer video card is overkill.

lol digi that post of yours screams of ignorance.

The MX cards will be insane performance increase over the original radeons, if anything I'd aim for a 3 or a 4ti, but 4mx will be SLIGHTLY better then the 2mx (however only so with the 64mb 4mx).

You already have a 64mb 2mx in your dp800 which is essentially a 4mx/64, I have one of those now in my dp800.

Either way. Digi you are an idiotic moron, especially if you think a 533 is too slow for any good lol.

4mx is a good start, see what you want to do and if anything use the fastest card in your fastest mac

I put a 4mx in my Dad's old G400 and what a difference in performance across the board.
Well worth the $75 and now he gets QE too!

I put a ATI 8500 in a G4/400 and outside some games I saw no differance. Despite that UT is said to be CPU limited the framerate improved back to the pace I got with a Voodoo 3 card in the same rig. FAKK2 and Q3 got a very nice boost (1024x768). But for 350--533 MHz G4 a GigaDesign G4 (280 dolla) and a 70 dollar nVidia card is better combo than spending more than 300 dollar on a killer nVidia or ATI card

Putting in newer GeForce (3, 4Ti or 4MX) in a G4/400/450/500 wouldn't give you much of a boost over a 2MX or Radeon, but his 533 should have a 4xAGP, so the boost would be noticable.

Actually a 4mx is about 5% to 10% faster then a 2mx AT THE MOST.

Some say up to 20% but meh. It's the should-have-been 3mx.

The 3TI kicks it's ***

Ey man, keep it down. No need to rant just because you disagree with someone, there are many ways to express oneself and yours isn't exactly the best way.
