From a source deep within Apple, I have procured a pic of the prototype for the next generation G5. This one, to be released early next year, is a desktop (not a tower) design.

I don't know how long I'll be able to leave this pic up -- Apple may invoke their legal department to force me to remove it, so you'd better check it out quickly...

Hope you can mount more than 2 drivs in that one!

I like Apples new look with (don't know the correct name) dotted metal thing. It's got a good retro look. It works well with the iSight and G5. Good job.

That picture is fake!

A well trained eye will notice the perspective of the border around the ports on the top right don't match the perspective of the rest of the case.

Nice try, but you didn't fool me...

I don't get it. If it is fake or not, it's ugly. What's the point?

OK, obviously just joking around there. That's a picture of the venerable Dynaco ST70 power amp. It was produced (I think) in the late 50's and into the 60's. It's still a popular enty-level power amp, and you can always find a few on ebay. I suppose the amount of humor you found in my picture is directly proportional to your interest in vintage stereo equipment...

When I saw the pictures of the new G5, I couldn't help but think of the racks on vintage tube amps. I'm betting that in 15 years or so, you'll see G5 chassis turned into home-brew tube amps (a-la the "mac-quarium"). At least that's what I plan to do.

yeah if anyone didn't notice the whole amp stuff on the bottom and all that... then you're really bad at pointing out fakes.

Lol, if the amp controls didn't give it away, the fact the perspective on the front port panel is different to the rest of the photo should. If people are going to post these things you could at least try to make them believable.

Well, I don't know. It's be cool to see someone come up with a G5 that would fit in a old wood radio!

The amp thing is funny. Can you imagine plugging your iPod into it??? Heh!

Ok, maybe that's just old fogy humor coming through!?!

That was great, Dave N!

The first thing I thought of when I saw all the holes in the G5 was my dad's old Wollensak/3M reel to reel tape recorder. That was a well built and pretty heavy unit as I recall.

I like the new case also.

I was just stating that the perforations in the G5 case reminded me of something from my youth.
