I have a Dual G4/450 I want to upgrade but I can't decide which upgrade will be more worth it. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How much money are you willing to spend? How about a single 1.6 G5?
Where are you going to get these computers by the way?

He's getting a CPU upgrade
Anyway, on that machine (my machine! ), you'll be hindered by the 100 MHZ FSB and the PC100 memory. Frankly, you could probably get a complete used dual gig system for a similar price as those upgrades (though, don't quote me on that -- how much is that upgrade?).
Anyway, if you're using it for everyday stuff and design stuff, get the Dual 1.0. If you're running OS 9 or gaming, get the 1.4.

Be happy.

Go the 1.6Ghz if you got the $$$.
PCI-X not in the 1.4Ghz and you can have 8Gb RAM in the 1.6Ghz running at the new bus speed, only 4Gb slower bus speed in the 1.4Ghz. That said I would be really happy with 4Gb of RAM
The only thing with the G5 is only two Hardrives and 1 optical. You can have 4 hardrives and 2 opticals in the MMDs.
I personally would be considering a Dually. I work with lots of different apps at once and X is the ish with 2 procs!
Tuff question really. They all have their pros/cons. Good luck

He's talking G4 not G5...
Your choice is tricky, it depends on what programs you use. If some are DP aware, get the dual. For gaming get the single.

Thanks for the all the replies so far. The cheapest 1.4 ghz G4 upgrade runs at $600 and the dual 1.0 ghz G4 runs at $750. I have 1.5 gigs of ram and an additional 40 gig hd in there with a Radeon 8500 and a Superdrive. I don't expect on buying a new mac until or if a Powerbook G5 is released (not just announced, hehe), so I'm expecting an upgrade to my current G4 will hold me off pretty well for awhile. I do alot of graphic and web design work but I also love playing games like Quake3 and Sof2. I'm hoping that the announcement of the G5 will lower the cost of these G4 upgrades. So 1.4 or dual 1.0?

The 1.4 for several reasons
1.Price
DP 1gig 750 dollar
SP 1.4 575 dollar
2. Performance
A DP 1 GHz is with say a 90% efficiency equal a SP 1.8
It appears that the GigaDesign often can be overclocked to 1.5 ot 1.6 GHz it is then marginaly slower than a DP in SMP and a healty 50% faster in non SMP.
With the dual 1.25 costing 1300 dollar in the apple store I really see no point in buying a dual 1.2 upgrade at 1000 dollars. Add to that the fact that what ever G4 you have or buy the lowend G5 will wipe the floor with it....
Quake is one of the few games that are truly SMP. UT2003 can off load sound to the other CPU to give marginal fps boost but it really is no true SMP

I have the same machine you do and I'm actually going to upgrade it pretty soon as well.
I'm going with the 1.4 because I don't think the dual 1.0 can give me all that much more performanace. Price is also a factor.
Right now I'm just waiting for prices to (hopefully) come down as a result of the G5 announcement this week.
[edit: what are you doing with your old cpu?. anyone interested?]

The Dual 1 GHz is $599, not $799. The $799 one is the Dual 1.25.
