My 450mhz cube running 10.2.6 no longer plays screensavers. I can activate them using the hot corners, but if I set a certain time limit it never goes on. Is this a known problem and if so how is it fixed if possible?
Thanks

Do you have a processor upgrade card in it? this may be it. Also try a quick PRAM zap. If none of this does it, I'm sure it take 3.6v lithium batteries, so try that.
However, if all the other power mangement works normally, it may be software related.

strangely enough, no I have no processor upgrade, though i've been thinking and dreaming of doing it. would the little internal battery cause other things to go wacky though like it not keeping time right or something like that? I haven't had any other issues. If I remember correctly it will not shut the monitor off after a pre-determined time either under power management. do you mean software can be interfering with the power management capabilities? if so, is it fixable without a fresh install like I'm afraid? I'd rather put that off until Panther...
Thanks

Have you tried logging on as a different user to see if they work?

Sounds like a Power Management issue if it's not turning the monitor off at all.
The PRAM battery does a lot of stuff - date and time, system defaults etc. - on some machines though some can be quicker to make themselves apparent - in this case it looks like it could be the Power management.
Zapping the PRAM is your first step - no reinstall required. If that won't do it - a nice new battery should cost you no more than £7 (about $10) so bung one in. The Cube's old enough for the original PRAM battery to be going anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is that (around the same time thousands of iMacs were shipping with dead batteries)
Look into other avenues though - Is your mouse on a surface that shakes a lot (close to a road with heavy traffic?) Have you had any problems with the pressure sensitive power button? ( machine booting randomly, occasional shutdown messages etc)
Hope it's none too serious and no reinstallation or nasty hardware is required.

tried logging on as another user and still doesn't engage the screensaver. I had thought that the mouse might be to blame as it's a wacom graphire2 tablet. are these known to keep macs from going into a screensaver? I will try the original pro mouse tonight. how does one zap the pram, apple+option+P+R? and once zapped, if the battery is at fault should anything really be fixed? I'm guessing if resetting the pram doesn't do the trick a new battery is in order...
Thanks for the help
