hi gang,

i just picked up two iSights from the apple store in soho.

it is packaged very similar to the ipod.

upon opening the package there are three mounting adapters with two firewire adapters a firewire cord, camera case and the camera itself.

the camera is about the diameter of a dollar coin with a silver aluminum mesh.has a green light on top to signal it's on. you rotate the front of the lens to turn it on and off.

i used the lcd mounting bracket and connected the camera via the provided firwire port.

you might need to buy and extra long firwire chord. i think the one provided is about 6 feet and since it has to mount on top of the screen in the middle of the desk and reach underneath to my tower i had to daisy chain it to my external firwire drive.

ichat av started immediately with absolutely no configuration.

however, two complaints i have read are true.

1) the color is off. i preview image of myself and those i have been ichatting with look green.

2) the auto exposure and focus issues. the auto focus is fine but i can't find a manual override for the exposure. the exposure changes as you move back and forth from the camera allowing more or less light to enter.

this is very annoying.

i hope there are some software upgrades for a manual override on this feature as well as color correction.

sorry for the limited review.

to sum up, the functionality is as stated. especially with the ease of use.

there are some issues to address like the color and auto exposure.

the image is relatively good.

it's better then the ibot but not as good as my mini dv cameras. sony vx200, canon xl1s, canon optura 100mc.

all the mini dv cameras worked flawlessly hooked up via firewire.

take care,

chung lee

Does that iSight come labeled as a Power Mac? Oh, it doesn't? Then it doesn't go in this forum.

Feel free to re-post in the Peripherals forum, where several iSight threads exist already. Use one of them.
