What is a good source?
Are they available on Apple's website somewhere?
Are there any drives that are faster?
Should I be buying two and implementing RAID?
Can I take an 80GB drive from my PowerMac and drop it into an iMac and set it up to run my FileMaker Server?
Any advice will be appreciated.
P.S. I also need a source for an Apple SuperDrive.
Yes, you can put the drive into your iMac.
If you need above-average security, buy two identical drives and do a RAID1 (it mirrors the content of one drive onto the other). (Disclaimer: A RAID is not a substitute for regular backups!)
If you don't need that much security, never mind. You don't have to choose your drive that carefully, because you only need to saturate a 100 MBit link -- every new harddrive can to that trick. As for capacity, I wouldn't go any higher than 160-180 gigs, because that is the sweet spot (money-wise), except you really need more.
Do a search on harddrives in this forum to get more information about which disk manufacturer to choose (I went for IBM/Hitachi for the last six years, never had any trouble with my drives).
BTW, if you think your hd is failing, backup your data and buy the new drive asap!
