Sorry mods. I didn't realize the similar thread below, but you don't give us mere mortal users the power to delete threads.
I am looking to get my first PowerMac (I have owned several PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs and others). I am trying to decide right now between getting the 1.6 Ghz G5 and a dual processor G4. While I may still spring for a dual 2 GHz G5 on impulse (which would probably be a dumb idea) I think I am more realistically looking at either the dual 1.25 GHz G4 or the 1.6 GHz single processor G5.

These are the specs that I am comparing. Note: these are ADC prices - as I student member I get a one time discount that I would like to use before my senior year (since afterwards I will no longer qualify):

Dual 1.25GHz w/ 2MB L3 Cache per processor
256MB DDR333 SDRAM (PC2700) -1 DIMM
80GB Ultra ATA drive
Optical 1 - Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW)
Optical 2 - None
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro dual-display w/64MB DDR
56K internal modem
$1,279.00
or

1.6GHz PowerPC G5
256MB DDR333 SDRAM (PC2700) - 2x128
80GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
56k V.92 internal modem
SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
$1,599.00
I am going to most likely get more RAM from somewhere cheaper and for the G4 I would most likely look for a fast CD-ROM drive for the second bay. I like the 4 drive bays for the G4 because I have a few hard drives laying around I like the idea of being able to incrementally add storage when I need it instead of spending a lot on one or two large drives. Also, the G5 is a lot cheaper. And the OS 9 booting ability is good for me because I use free pro tools sometimes and it may never be available for OS X in free form.

Any ideas?
