I just bought another sick of ram from Ramjet, but when I put it in my computer, it didn't work. I have a 2001 PM G4 (the one before the mirrored doors). The stick they sold me is CL2. I notice that the other 512 (also bought from Ramjet) and which works fine is CL3. Is that the problem, or did I just get unlucky?
Oh, and no, I don't think I zapped it. I was pretty careful installing it. Finally, should I expect a hard time from Ramjet tomorrow about exchanging it?

First, unplug and reinsert the DIMM a couple times. If the RAM slot has been empty all this time, some dust will have collected on the fingers.
If that doesn't do it, download DIMM First Aid to see what it says about the new stick. Apple System Profiler usually isn't too helpful with incompatible RAM, but DIMM First Aid gives more useful error messages. It can also fix one type of RAM incompatibility - some of the time.

I switched them about. I'm pretty sure the socket is OK. I'll try dimm first aid. Thanks.

Well, that's that. I had to boot in 9.4 (there's always a first time for everything). But Dimm First Aid said the clock speed on the ram was too slow for the computer. I guess it goes back tomorrow.

Would you consider selling me your copy of OS 9.4?

Oh, I don't know about that. I'm a little nervous about the license issue.
Anyhoo, thanks for the advice. I called Ramjet and they said there shouldn't have been any compatibility issues. They are sending out another stick.

Simey, they're joking with you. You mistyped and probably meant 9.1.4. This highest OS 9 rev is 9.2.2 (or is it 9.2.3--eh, who cares?).

Oh, fair enough. I only glanced at the OS when I used it and I probably misread it. I came over to Mac with 10.1. These 9.x thingies are a mystery to me.
