How exactly do threads become locked? Who decides, and what do they base the decisions on?

Earlier today I posted the question below, and there was one reply (by Tookie) that simply pointed to an earlier thread that in NO WAY answered my questions re: performance, and then the thread was LOCKED. Badda Bing!!

If anyone has a real imput to the performance questions I'd love to hear it:

It seems that the "new" 1.25 G4 machines have moved backwards in some respects with the old 1.25s:

There is NO onboard 800 Firewire
There is NO onboard BlueTooth
There is NO airport Extreme

Looks like the "New" G4s have and OLD motherboard. What I'd like to know is:

1. How does perfomance look on the "new" DP 1.25 with 2MB L3 cache vs. the "old" DP1.25 with 1MB cache?

2. Did the fan/noise modifications made to the 2003 G4 towers (with 800FW) make it on to the new G4s or are thes just re-badged (new CPU) 2002 cases and LBs?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I'll throw my $0.02 in

The added L3 cache will improve performance on some memory intensive applications, converserly some apps may not see an increase.

I would hazard a guess as to yes apple kept the modifcations in place, why would they purposely make it nosier with all of the complaining prior to the modifications.

How did I arrive at these ideas, I used my common sense so even though the mods locked the previous thread these questions for most part don't add any value. I'm sure you already guessed that the machines will be a smidge faster and just as quite as the current mdd's

First off, I'll openly admit I have no issues with moderation and enforcers of rules, but I will also admit that tooki likes to use his powers a bit more freely than other admins, if you catch my drift.

But to the topic, for the most part, these are the same systems you could've purchased before the FW800 models except it's got a single 1.25Ghz CPU instead of the prior CPU choices.

The extra L3 cache will prove worthy to have in some intensive apps, and relatively unimportant in others...there's so many more important aspects than this, such as your amount of RAM and so forth...I wouldn't really consider this a selling point either way.

As for the fan, I'd also guess Apple kept it "quieter" like the FW800 models...if they didn't, complaints will surely start pouring in again, which wouldn't be good for Apple.

Personally, I'd take a gander at all the refurb/leftovers/closeout FW800 machines now surfacing at online Mac resellers as they will probably yeild the lowest price. Be sure to keep an eye on www.dealsontheweb.com and www.dealmac.com for your best price on closeout G4 PowerMacs.
