I'm planning to get a powermac, i'm looking to buy either the g4 1.25gig or the dual 1.25. I now the discussion between dual or not to dual has been discuss before. I would like some more imput. My main uses are internet, MS office, very light photoshop and itune. I currently have ti550 powerbook and i'm pretty happy with the speed for what i use it for. My question is for my situation, should i go dual or not. FYI, i would like a G5 but i want to wait for new rev and would like to save money for a 20 ACD.

Welcome to the forum!
The dual debate is a long one, and I guess only you can know the answer... First, a few questions...
First off, are you genuinely happy with the speed of the 550Ti?
Do you run lots of applications at the same time?
Will you in future, or do you use any very intensive applications such as Photoshop, not including light use?
If as you say, you are happy with the speed of the Ti, I would stay single and save the money...
However, if you answer yes to the second or third questions, I would really consider a dual, as under these circumstances you will see a decent benefit...
However, I really would consider saving for a G5 if you can. I say this for a few reasons...
Performance. Even a singe G5 will totally fly due to the FSB and bandwidth improvements. I suspect it will be like 'night and day' to a G4 system...
Resale value. I really can't see anyone wanting a G4 in a few months time when the G5 hits the streets. The amount of G4s going on eBay is amazing....
Future proofing. FW800, PCI-X, SATA, 8XAGP pro, USB2.0, Bluetooth etc etc They really will serve you well over the next few years, and be much better value than the G4 connections...
As for the Rev A/Rev B machines, in this case Apple have had so long to perfect everything, I really feel it is safe to buy...
Hope you enjoy whatever machine you choose!
Peace,
Marc

Marc,
Thanks for your reply, i gues my main thinking is this for not wanting a g5. I can get a 1.25 single g5 for about 1,150 USD with a family COMPUSA discount. Well if i wait about a year later, the low end model should be about $1.5k. So my point is 1.5+1.15k=2600 for to machine vs pay 2k right now. I don't think with my use i will really be able to tell a big diffrence right. I love using mac, but i'm not using for graphics or vid like most poeple here do. I really want a powermac for the purpose of having more storage and having that cool 20" ACD display.

Great points. That's exactly how I see it. I imagine the performance, and all of those new added features alone are worth getting the G5. A 1.6 is going to fly, simply put. I'd be much more excited about having a G5 in the future (even a single) because I'll know future OS X version are going to be really optimized for it, much more so than for the G4, I imagine. I'd really go with the G5 right now if I were in your position. But that's just me opinion. Good luck with your choice!
