After hours of use my new eMac (1 ghz w/superdrive) starts to make a slight high pitched squeel or hiss. Is this normal or could it be a problem brewing?

This is most likely a fan bearing dying. A trip to your local service centre should get the problem fixed. You dont want a fan to not be working at full capacity in an enclosure like the eMacs.
