Here's a stumper...
Mirrored Drive Door G4 will not boot off Jaguar 10.2 install CD or OS X Server 10.2 install CD.
Mounts CD's fine if booting off HD.
Firmware password not enabled.
Boots off FireWire Drive.
All original hardware.

My guess is the MDD needs a version newer then 10.2.0, which is probably what is on the CDs

My goal is to install OS X Server 10.2, which requires you to boot off that install cd... which I can't do.

Scott - I have a feeling you're right, but I haven't found a solution yet.

I tried booting off the CD via a FireWire CD drive (just to eliminate the internal CD drive as a factor) and it would not boot.

I tried installing X server to the internal HD by booting it up in Firewire mode connected to a tbook, and although the installation seemed to complete without a hitch, it would not boot off of that newly made HD!

I agree with Scott, the install CDs probably cannot be used with the MDD models. Call Apple; if there is a newer version of OS X Server, they should send you an upgrade CD.

You are on the right track. My guess is the MDD you are using came out after the 10.2.0 CDs, so your install does not have the needed drivers to boot.

Now that you did a system install in Firewire mode, immediately install the 10.2.6 combo update. Afterwards, the MDD should boot from the updated install.

As suggested by reader50, I'll try to install 10.2 (not server) via target disk mode and update to 10.2.6 with Software Update.

As for 10.2 server, I found the kb article 107496 which explains that the FW800 G4 requires 10.2.3 or later server install cd's AND that the OS cannot be installed from that cd (the server must be installed on a 10.2 hard drive). I ordered the 10.2.3 cd's from Apple for $30.
