Well, at least I think it's a bargain.

* Dual-1GHz G4
* 2MB L3 Cache
* 1GB Memory
* 80GB Hard Drive
* Superdrive
---------
$1604

Am I incorrect in believing that this is worth as much as the $1999 PowerMac G5, and comparable in speed?

Well there's considerable debate about the speed of the G5 but I believe even the 1.6ghz should be as fast if not faster the the dual 1ghz. - Faster bus, memory, video subsystem not to mention the next generation cpu. No one knows for sure however since the g5 has not been release.

Of course the dual G4 should be more then enough horse power for most people. I myself have one, but I'm tempted to sell the puppy and by a g5.

Good Luck
Mike

I've been ready to throw my money into a G5, but my wallet always holds me back.

I do want the G5 if only for the memory purposes. Holding a future maximum of eight or sixteen gigabytes is incredible, and would speed along any video project (not that I do that many, but it'd be nice when I do).

In the end, I'm glad I got the G4, but even having a new system would have been nice, even if it is worse (though it isn't).

If you needed a computer now, and your wallet was more comfortable with the deal you found, then that's the perfect computer for you. The dual 1 Ghz will serve you just fine for quite some time, I think.

You can get a new dual 1.25GHz for that amount of money. Just get extra RAM from someplace other than Apple.

Though I'd hold out for a G5, if possible...
Be happy.

With a SuperDrive? That's terribly important for me, and finding the best bang for the buck while maintaining quite a bit of speed and certainly the Superdrive is what I was driving for.

I was actually considering a new iMac, but I already have LCD monitors to plug in.

EDIT: and that price did include $40 shipping, so $1550 is anything but a poor price.

Have you actually gotten it? Or do you just think you're getting one...

I don't see it for $115. I found it for $299, and there is a $120 mail-in which drops it to $179.00. Am I missing a coupon somwhere?

There was another coupon to drop the price again. It may no longer be there.
