If it is just one video card, you cannot do it.

If you're running OS X, open System Preferences and click Displays. Then click the Arrangement tab and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you click on Detect Displays, it doesn't bring up the Arrangement option?

If your video card supports dual displays, then the Displays pane will have the Arrangement option which looks like this:
Just uncheck the "Mirror Displays" box in lower left, then drag the displays around to the desired arrangement.

ok.. I don't have the middle arrangment option.. So I guess that means the geforce mx 2 does not support dual displays? I just assumed since there was 2 ports I could use 2 displays..

Your video card may not support it.
More powerful cards do. For example, I can run 2 monitors off my radeon 8500, and 2 off my radeon 7000.

Is there a way I can find out for sure which card I have? I bought the computer used.. will it say on the actual card..
also If I just buy a cheap used pci radeon card can I then run duals?

If you get a PCI Radeon, then you can definitely run duals. As for the 2MX cards, some supported duals while most were single-channel. They normally had dual connectors for different display types, but only one video channel.
When the G4 dual 800 was the top of the line system, the first Mac dual monitor 2MX was offered. It was standard on the dual 800 and optional on the lesser models. If memory serves, the next line of PowerMacs moved to the 4MX, so there may not have been too many dual-display 2MX cards out there.

With the pci radeon I would run a monitor on each card right>? I wouldn't just be using the radeon correct?

One monitor from each card, correct. The original Radeons (PCI or AGP) did not support dual displays.

That's interesting, as a Geforce MX 2 should support dual displays.. Are you sure you unchecked the "Mirror Displays" option?

I have both plugged in: and I have restarted:
I just get mirrors.
I have no option for unchecking mirrors,
no arrangement options either.
(it's a geforce 2mx 32mb: 1 adc, 1 vga)

No, it shouldn't. There is a Geforce 2MX and a Geforce 2MX with Twinview. Like reader50 said.
horrorbiz, if you got a radeon thac could support dual displays, you could run three.

Yeah the geforce 2mx twinview cards were very rare on the mac side, however they were extremely common on the PC side.
I bought a $30 pci gf2mx for my PC and while it DOES have a second vga + video out, they're not soldered on, however drivers tell me there's a second monitor port.. yeah twinview chip I suppose.
It's a modified firmware that you can't realyl get on the mac side and the geforce 2mx twinview was neat
but then mine was replaced with a 4mx at some repair place *shrug* oh well
