i am getting a 533mhz G4 and i was wondering what the codename is? i checked applehistory.com and it doesnt have any name listed. the specs are 533mhz, 7200 IBM Deskstar 40gb HD, 256mb of ram, cdrom/cdrw, zip drive (i dont know if it is a 100 or a 250) applehistory says it is known as "digital audio" anyone have one of these? could you shed some light on the machine and anything to look out for?

thanks for the info

I have one, I enjoy the time I spend on it.

Dunno about code names.

Dunno about Zip drives.. mine came without.

I currently have two HDs, one is the original 40 gig 7200 rpm drive, the other is an 80 gig WD 7200rpm drive w/ 8MB cache.

I also have a 48x Lite-On CDRW which replaced the original 8x Sony.

It's a nice 'puter. and yes.. it's a Digital Audio (no audio-in other than USB or firewire)

i guess i have more questions than i thought!

how about multiple HD's? do i have to set them as "master" "slave" or can i just hook another HD up? and how many can i have internally? i have a 7200rpm 40gb maxtor and a 12gb 5400rpm IBM that are looking for a place to go.

The drive in the machine will already be the Master. Hopefully, when you buy a new one, it will come with instructions as to how to set the jumpers for Slave. It's often depicted in a little graphic taped to the drive itself, or maybe you can track it down on the mfgr.s website. The settings differ from one drive to the next.

Please doublecheck the factory drive. My Sawtooth came from the factory with the drive set to Single. If I had hooked up a Slave without resetting the factory drive to Master, I'd have been looking for disk repair utilities pronto. Disk repair utilities are good to have around, but you should not need them the first day.

The Powermac 533, or Digital Audio Powermac was codenamed "Tangent" and "Clockwork".

I'm on my trusty ol' 533 now, good machine. It's actually faster than its advertised 533 mhz, its probobly as fast as a 667 because of its caching. but ill be putting a new gigadesigns in soon.
