Well, like the topic says, is there any benefit to using it on a personal desktop system?

No, it won't help. If you want to improve HD performance, you can get a normal ATA 7200 RPM drive with an 8MB cache.

The SATA cables are thinner, but if you are having problems snaking cables around in your G4, then you can try using round IDE cables with your existing disk.
