hi

I just got a 333mhz imac (second hand)

I am using the software disks that came with my iMac DV (as the imac333 was private sale with no disks)

but when I try to install quicktime I get error message saying "could not find installer 4.5.3"

I've tried to boot up and do a clean install from my IMAC DV DISC but it crashes as OS 9 boots up from the disk

(the previous owner said he didn't know how to use his imac and I can see that various files are missing from the system / also I've noticed that the middle button on the cd tray is red even though it is a tangerine imac - which tells me the drive must have been replaced?)

I've copied a file for example a 1.2mb file from a cd onto the HD and it copied it fine and it's the same size once it's transfered, so it can't be a fault drive can it? - or is it more likely corrupt OS on HD?

does anyone have any ideas?
thanx in advance

rich

more like,
A) have the correct firmware update on the iMac 333.

B) if you can use a generic OS 9 disc, all the better.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

-or-
do what I did for my beige G3 and all I had was the iMac DV restore CD:
-boot from the restore CD
-if you wanna wipe the hard drive again, do so
-locate the iMac HD image file in the Configuration folder
-double-click the .img file, Disk Copy will open up.
-After it does, take all the files and folders mounted on the desktop and copy it to the hard drive
-After THAT, go to Control Panel, choose Startup disk, and choose the Hard drive
-Welcome to Mac OS 9!

Let me know your results.
