I got my iMac yesterday, won it from an eBay auction. The guy will not give me OSX.

Need a few answers:

-Power outage during updates crashed the iMac. It starts up, gets to "Waiting for application services" and stays there. In verbose mode, it just repeats that. In safe boot, it just repeats that.
I tried holding option, only OSX is on the drive. I tried Ctrl+S, and checked the disk. The volume appears to be ok.
I looked all over google, this error happens when a file is corrupt.

How can I fix it without reinstalling? I don't have the disc

-I downloaded OSX from my friend last night, he gave me 2 discs, bin/tos. I tried opening it in nero, cannot be read. I tried WinISO> Cannot be read. WTF? I renamed bin to nrg, to try something> burned with nero fine. Put it in iMac and hold down C, cd drive ejects it and goes to the error.

Guy won't give you disks? bad feedback.

Can't help you figure out what's wrong with bootlegging cds here, because well, that would be wrong, even though you're entitled to have some kind of OS X on that machine.

my suggestion to you is that macsales.com has jaguar 10.2 for 45 bucks.

Get it and feel good knowing you've got real discs not some weird copy.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

I'm trying to remember the circumstances, but I seem to remember someone mentioning on some post that you can't install OSX from a burned disk. I've never tried it so I can't verify it's truth.
