I was thinking about upgrading my memory from CAS 2.5 timings to 2.0 by buying a few new sticks with 2.0 CAS ratings. My question is, will the firmware know the difference and adjust automatically or are there settings that have to be modified manually? Also, is there a way to get into the open firmware to see these settings at all?

Your first step, getting into Open Firmware, is done by holding Command+Option+O+F at startup until it tells you to release the keys. That's all I can help you with.
