OK, my CD drive won't work on my rev. a. When I put a CD in, the CD spins up a little, reads, then spins back down. It won't mount or ANYTHING. This is especially frustrating because now my computer won't start up (tried booting into os9 and it gives me the ? disk-holding down 'X', 'D', control-shift-option-command-delete, 'C' DOESN'T work) and I can't boot from the CD... SO I will have to remove the drive and install it briefly onto my friends B&W and reinstall OS9 (which is what I was going to do anyway) and freaking fix it. But is this a common problem? Haven't read that much that it is... but maybe someone has an idea. Thanks in advance.

It's not a common problem but they can go bad. i had my cd drive go bad on my iMac rev. A and replaced it with another drive i bought off of ebay. This was before all the cd-r/rw drives were available like the Wegener drive and the MCE drive. If you're looking for just a replacement then ebay is your best bet.

So does it sound like a cd problem? I mean sometimes the damn thing mounts and others (read: most of the time) it wont... If the CD drive was bad, would it spin up, read, then spin down like that?

Anyway... any and all help would be greatly appreciated...

Spinning up and down is what mty Pismo's drive did when it was failing.
