I have a 867 MHz QuickSilver with a regular airport card in it (802.11b). My roomates are looking at getting a wireless router, and want to get a 802.11g unit. Will I be able to "talk" with it ok, since I am on a 802.11b card?

I know that 802.11g is supposedly backwards compatible (so a 802.11g card can talk to a 802.11b base unit), but does it work the other way (a 802.11b card talking to a 802.11g base unit)?

I have that exact set-up (867 Quicksilver with a AEBS) and it works fine, although nothing else in the house can connect at the Extreme speed.

We are just using it for DSL, and since there isn't a DSL line out there that can max out 11 mbits/sec me and them aren't too worried

So then why do you need the more expensive 802.11 g?
