Hi,
Is it possible/practical to share a monitor, keyboard and mouse between a Powermac and a PC? I need to have both at my desk, but I would like to minimize the clutter if I can.
Thanks

I think it should be feasible, as long as you use a USB kb/mouse and a VGA/DVI monitor - if you're looking to use a KVM switch. You could also just switch the accessories manually, but that might be a pain.
I cant recommend you any KVMs, sorry (Don't have much experience with this).

I do this pretty cheaply since I have a monitor with two inputs. If you have ever looked, KVMs that support USB and digital video inputs such as DVI are pretty spendy ($200+)
What I did was plug the DVI output from my Powermac and the VGA output from my PC into the monitor. Then, I bought a USB switchbox from Fry's for $30:
aten switchbox
I plug a USB hub into the switchbox which has my keyboard, mouse and scanner plugged into it. Since it has 4 ports, I also use it for my Powerbook when I want to use an external keyboard there, too.
I have to press 2 buttons to switch, but it is a heck of a lot cheaper than a KVM and doesn't involve the loss of video signal quality that you usually get with a KVM (such as ghosting)

There are belkin switches, which I believe include the cables as well, and are USB and VGA.
Those work rather well ^_^ apparently, a friend of mine does just this with his g4 and pc

Yeah, I use a Belkin switch (VGA/USB) between my G4 and PC. Works great, with minimal ghosting (cheap switches, like from Compucable, have HORRIBLE ghosting issues).
EDIT: Oh, and regarding the post after mine --
The Belkin Omniview I use keeps the fuctionality of the eject and volume keys on the Apple keyboard, and the volume keys even work on the WinXP PC.

As far as sharing a monitor and keyboard, I have had a positive experience with the IOgear MiniView III USB KVM. It even allows you to share USB peripherals - but I don't use this feature. The only drawback is that I no longer have the use of my volume or eject keys on the Apple keyboard. I undrestand that this is a limitation of all late model KVMs - a bit of a bummer, and as such, the only real issue.
