I hate to be a rumor-starter, and all that, but it's been almost six months--does that mean a refresh soon--is there an event coming up? I don't even keep up any more.

rumored specs, near-possible confirmation; i.e., should I wait a few weeks?

thanks!

Let me take a crack at predictions and rumormongering:

No interesting update just a "bump" but that won't happen until the channel clears a bit. Sales of eMac & iMac are "down" if I remember the latest info.

Anticipate price reduction ahead of the holiday season. Maybe an iPod/eMac or iMac bundle "$50-$100 discount" deal. Possibly other "bundle" gimmicks as well.

The "bump" will probably move the "top" consumer to 1.2 GHz and, in a fit of desparation, Apple might add a L3 cache. Pre-installed Panther will be the "big dead".

There might be a cosmetic (not form) change to the plastics coming in an effort to create buzz and reenvigorate consumer sales. That could be held off until 1H '04.

I'd say 1.2, slight bump to geforce 5200, slight price cut, some bundle promotion. I hope it comes out soon, I want to get one.

Well, I need a new iMac soon! I'd buy the current iMac but I really want USB2. I hope the new iMacs have it. I also hope the bump is a little more like 1.25-1.3. That's a bump I could live with. Other than that I'm just waiting to give Apple some money.

I expect a speedbumped iMac/eMac the first Tuesday after the new G5s actually ship. Probably to 1.2 to 1.4 GHz tops. Since the G5 starts at 1.6, Apple has no reason to keep the iMac artificially low (unless they can't handle the heat in the current case design).
