Greetings,

I have been interested in getting a Mac desktop for a while (current ibook user) and the G5 finally pushed me over the top. Well I'm starting to chicken out a bit on the G5, thinking that while the latest technology is cool I'm not sure I want to spend that much money.

However I still want to get a OSX desktop in my house. So I'm considering a dual G4 instead. Basically it will be used by me and my wife for regular things, as well as me for some coding I'm interested in getting into, and possibly some video editing. So I'm looking and I think a dual 1.25 or 1.42 sounds good, about the right price referbed.

Question is do I wait till the G5s are officially in peoples hot little hands expect G4 prices to fall, or would you say they are about as low as they are going to be for a while? Like say at small dog I have my eye on a Dual G4 1.25 with powerdrive for 1649.00, in 1 or 2 months will that price be much diffrent?

Should I reconsider on the G5? Opinions are welcome

Thanks!

Well I'd say that if you need the computer NOW, jump on a refurb. G4. If you can wait about 1-2 months AFTER the G5's release, you'll be able to snag up a refurb. G5 for a greatl deal.

The G4 prices dropped the day that the G5's were announced, and I can see little reason for them to drop any more for the next five months or so. The price drops usually work in a way that when a new system is ANNOUNCED the old system's prices fall and stay until the next system is announced.
