Hello everyone,

I have been waiting to buy a Mac since the day Mac OS X was released and my setup 450mhz pentium III is getting sluggish.
I have finally scraped together enough money($3000) for a powermac. I want a computer that can do web,intensive graphics(maya,photoshop,illustrator, etc),and intensive programming(php,obj-c,c++) but still get a nice printer some ram(2gigs or more). Heres my problem I've been looking at some of the 2 ghz G5 benchmarks, etc and it looks really good except that it's a rev A and isn't shipping till September.What do I do ?????

I'd go for the dual G5 if you can swing it. Its a total monster. You will dig it.

Unless you do some serious Maya and HUGE photoshop work a dual 2 GHz G5 is overkill.

You will be more then fine with the single 1.6 G5.

At work we do an entire magazine with gigs of images on a Dual 1.25 G4 and it is more then enough.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

thanks for the input
I have one more question is safe to invest $3000 dollars in a rev A computer? I was thinking for a printer may be EPSON Stylus Photo 1280 $399 with mail-in-rebate and ram at crucial for about $99 512MB. I have a question on the ram at cruical if you visit the link on the bottom there are two options both for 512 but have different prices, what gives???

2Ghz PowerMac G5 2400 + 192(taxes)with developer discount = $2600
RAM 512MB = $99
Printer = $400
Total = $3,099

crucial

I still have my Rev A TiBook 400, and I can say that I haven't had a single problem with it in over two years. I've upgraded the harddrive, but other than that it's a great machine. I think that Apple's been working on the G5 long enough to safely say that it's a pretty damn reliable Rev A machine.

NO. Do not get an Epson. They're expensive, they gobble ink, and the ink will cost and arm and a leg. They suck. Get a Canon. I've got an i850 and I'm not looking back. Best printer I've ever had. You might want an i950.

Overall, I'd say go for it. The G5 is an amazing system, and if you get an i950 that'll even get you under $3,000.

Good luck.

I think that epson makes a fine printer. at least they did 3 years ago with the 740. ink is dirt cheap at ink4art.com. I love the printer and epson because they seem macfriendly to me. I am not sure about canon printers though. you are a lucky man though I can't wait til I can afford a new computer. only $2999.99 more to save.

Get the high-end G5. Most of the online places (macwarehouse, etc) offer a free printer when you buy a G5.

I agree that the Canon is the ink jet to buy. Epsons gobble up ink so fast that I finally ended up getting a small laser, and it is much cheaper in the long run.

The Canon i950 is supposed to be the best.
