I went to "the mac liquidators" web page and it was a great list of internal cd-rw drives at a great price, so I get one today, I install it very smoothly and everthing went great!, the Power Mac g4 recognize it right away and then I hit the eject key... guess what? the mirror doors are too small! and I dont want to cut my powermac g4 case! what can I do to fix this problem without cutting the Mac? do I have to cut the drive? I know that mac liquidators are inocent, its apple fault. but I dont want to damage the mac... help please!

Most drives have a little extra plastic cover over their tray. Did you remove that from the drive before you installed it? I had to do that when I installed my store-bought Pioneer DVD-R to make it fit through the slot.

It is designed to come off, usually it just snaps on.

Sorry to hear that! Performing sugery on a G4 would be painful to watch. Is there a way to remove the doors? I've seen pics of G4s with the mirror doors removed for internal drives. I never knew why, but I guess they had the same problem you have. Perhaps there's a way to pop off the doors and reattach them later?

Good luck figuring it out!

Yeah slip the tray cover off.. that should do it. If not, grab a set of wire cutters?

Are you entirely certain it was $15? I went to the web site and it said nothing of burners that low in price.

you went to what website?

it was from best buy, 15 dollars after MIR.

it was a verbatim drive, and it worked perfectly as soon as i popped it in, none of the fuss that some of the guys on xlr8yourmac.com go through. i think its 30 now that the MIR is done.

look around, 2 weeks ago office max had a 48 X for free after MIR, and i have seen 52X for as low as 9.99

Anyone know if the Samsung optical drive Mac Warehouse is advertising as Mac compatible actually IS Mac compatible?

http://www2.warehouse.com/product.as...p;BCID=5600077

Seems like a kickass drive with that 8MB cache and those recording speeds. Just can't get a straight answer from Macwarehouse sales people about its being mac compatible. Even though their site says it is, they seem unsure at the point of sale.
