1) Panther ships with it
&
2) they come out with the new LCDs that match.
I'm assuming I'll have quite a wait, but but atleast my expectations are realistic...

Waiting to buy a computer because the monitor doesn't match is about as idiotic as it gets. If you are that concerned about the monitor matching then you probably don't need the power of a G5.

i beg your pardon. The matching isn't as big a deal as I assume the technology will be better as well. Why do I want to buy them together? So applecare covers both. And fyi, in my opinion the monitor is the most important piece of computer hardware you have. a dual 10ghz G7 doesn't mean that much if you're using a 15" crt...

its so true though. Its like tires on a car. Most people dont realize how important good tires are on cars. ESP race cars.

Most people don't realize, or most don't care? I personally don't care. G5 and a cinema display -- they're equally beautiful in their own ways (yes, I love the look of the G5). They're not clothes, though. Hell, I'd rather have a G5 and a 22" LaCie. Odd match, but beautiful monitor and monster computer. On top of my MacAlly keyboard, M$ mouse, and Canon scanner -- none of which match.

I still have an old 19" Dell Trinitron CRT. It's flat, it's got a sharp picture, and I already own it. I'll be using it with my new G5, thanks.
I'd love a 21" TFT flat screen, but the dual 2GHz G5 is pushing my budget as-is, and I'd rather spend the money on more CPU than a screen to replace the one I have that works perfectly.

What does that have to do with CompUSA? They get them from Apple, and when Apple ships them, CompUSA will get them! It's been widely reported all over the web that these machines may not be out for a while.

my point was compusa knew well before august 5th that they weren't "expected" to ship then, but didn't update until the last minute, thus misleading people who may have bought one from them who don't frequent macnn or similar sites...

to each his own, but I actually am monitor-less right now, and if I'm going to buy a new comp and monitor from apple, I'd like to do it at the same time and save the extra $300 for applecare. I don't care so much about the color coordination, but I'd be kinda upset if I bought a 20" cinema display and two days later they came out with a newer version.

I'd imagine that anyone who ordered a G5 would be quite aware of when they are being released.
