[Correct me if I'm wrong...]
Augsut 15th marks the 5th anniversary of "iMac Day," the first day the original iMac made its debut to the world in stores and the hands of people.
The iMac was the sexiest, the coolest, the cutest, and the hippest computer of its time that redefined what personal computing is meant to be.
Guys and gals, this day should forever be remembered for the iMac's revolutionary impact on the computer industry, and especially for its incredible resurgence it made for Apple.
So go down to your nearest Apple store on August 15th, and bring your party hats, kazoos, banners and balloons, and celebrate with everyone on one of the most important days in Macintosh history.

I hope they celebrate by announcing an update to the iMac. I'm ready to get mine.

I'll second that. I got the original iMac when it came out. I've found myself in the need of a new desktop mac. Hopefully a new iMac will be coming soon.

Get an eMac. They're so cheap, and they are really good machines.

I've thought about it. Do you know how the eMac handles iMovie or Final Cut Express? Those (and photoshop) are my biggest programs. I might give the eMac a second look if they are comperable to the iMac.

The iMacs are very limited with upgrades. Not too long ago Sonnet and others released an upgrade for CRT iMacs. Though nothing major. While there is limited upgradeability I don't think they nor any of the other Macs (save maybe powermacs) will be upgradeable to a G5.
Sorry to dash your hopes!

Ah, good old times. I was hanging out at the CompUSA on 5th Ave in NYC that day, where a reporter for the New York Post interviewed me about the new iMac. I commented that I would love to buy an iMac, but that I had just bought a PowerBook G3 a few weeks before.
Shortly after the interview appeared in the Post's Sunday edition (Aug 16, 1998), I broke down and bought an iMac after all. It runs reliably and sees regular use as an Internet terminal to this day.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.
