Has anyone ordered one of these new G4's yet? The ones that came out when the G5 was announced? I Think I might get one, because you can spec out a dual 1.25 for $1450 with an education discount. But it said ship time 2 to 4 weeks on the checkout page. Doesn't that seem like a bit MUCH?? Has anyone ordered them yet? Did you get them yet? How long did they take? I don't think I wanna spend all that money on a G5 just yet.

I ordered one from Macmall.com last week and I had it in 4 days. Then again I only went for the single processor.

If apple thought G4 sales were slow before the G5 was announced I'm sure it is not selling a lot of them now. At least bring them up to 1.42GHz duals if you are going to drop back to pre-FW800 days!

I just ordered a dual 1.25 on Monday...I ordered it bare bones, with the only option the GeForce...and apple care (they knocked off $100)
the Mac is due today; I selected the cheapest chipping they had!
I think it depends on how you have your machine configured.
1.5GB RAM for that machine for $285 is on the way from Chip Merchant.

Well I ordered one & had it BTO'd w/ Dual processors & a GeForce 4 Ti 128MB (added the RAM via 3rd party sources) but I ordered mine through my University Computer Store. I ordered on July 21st and it's due in "one day this week" so they tell me...many others who ordered for themselves have received theirs within a week of ordering, regardless of what time estimate the web says.

I just got the dual 1.25 dual refurbs Apple had last week. I love it! I'm especially glad I got it since it's the model with Airport Extreme and FW800!
I still think the new ones Apple is selling is still a very good machine and would be a good bridge until the G5's are out and their price drop...

Whoa, CONGRATS on your first Mac RiSE!!!
Nice config. you've got there...that's actually a pretty decent build time considering all your BTO options you added. I was supposed to get my system by this Friday, however I called my University today and they kindly informed me there was a mixup in shipment and my system just shipped TODAY! Ack! So now I hafta wait 'til Aug. 12-13 like you for mine as well, and I ordered on the 21st of July...ahhhh the wait is a killer!!!
EDIT: Nice location! I'll be attending NCSU in the fall so I'll be there as of Aug. 16th - move in day.

hello ... i am also looking into purchashing the 1.25Ghz G4 tower. the barebones, edu model, for 1199 sounds like a sweet upgrade over my iMac 600. however, i don't need an apple display, i am wondering if something cheap like this one would work alright. what kinda of additional cables would i need? thanks.

That CRT monitor (and any other CRT monitor) will do just fine; you'll need no additional cables as the PowerMac comes with a DVI-to-VGA adapter and you'll plug that VGA monitor directly into that adapter and be set.

I recently got a FW800 Dual 1.25GHz G4 as well. It was also my first mac. I fell in love with it as soon as I opened the box. Personally, I think the best route to take (the one I took atleast) was to just walk into the apple store and bring it home. I waited no more than 45 minutes for them to run all my tests, install my extra memory and airport extreme, and then they escorted me to my car with the new powermac all bundled up. God Bless them.

Congrats!!! You took the most expensive, yet most luxurious, route in purchasing! Hope it continues to impress!
