Anyone know if the recent Macs (e.g. GF4mx) and more importantly the new G5 macs can drive two of the Formac 20" TFTs? This seems appealing, since they are available in both ADC + DVI versions, making it possible to get 2 x 1600 x 1200 for the price of the Apple 23" display (1920 x 1200). I'm just wondering if most dual monitor graphic cards can drive this. (It's also less expensive, more pixels than 2 apple 20" monitors, and no ADC-DVI converter is needed).

Comment on the 20" Formac also welcome (I've heard they are brighter, but not quite as solid as the apple displays).

It sounds like a plan.. I didn't knwo the prices went THAT low.

If you like doing multi monitors then go ahead, but keep in mind there's going to be a fat amount of bezel unless you overlap the screens.

Any graphics card in the current G4 PowerMac & G5 PowerMac can drive dual-displays from a single card; there's a ADC & a DVI connector on the cards, and so you could order one Formac display w/ ADC and one w/ DVI and not have to buy an adapter, as you stated. The Formacs are great displays as far as quality goes, however their customer service is what's lacking. You better hope your display works perfectly, cause if not, you'll have a time getting any service with it. You plan sounds legitimate, but do keep in mind they aren't nearly as fashionable as the Apple Displays.

I have a Formac 2010 I purchased in February of this year (2003)...

its been flawless. bright,,..so bright you have to not use it at its highest brightness which for me is a first as I always like things very bright.

I paid I think like almost 2,000 bucks for it.. I understand the Oxygen models are down to 1,000 now with a rebate. so for what I paid you can get two!

Lucky you!

They are awesome displays. VERY VERY VERY sturdy.

You can see some pics of mine at http://www.nycfarmboy.com/g4.html

you will notice that my desk is just a glass table so its up a bit high so I had to stick a roll of tape under the display stand in back to get it at the angle I wanted.

It is 100% uniform in color from end to end. Handles video VERY well.

I also like the silver bezel that goes around the display versus the white bezel around the Apple displays which I think it hard on your eyes.

But Formac may have went to white bezels too..I'm not sure.

But.. irregardless..its been flawless and works perfect and looks as good today as it did the day I turned it on for the first time.

Good luck!

Though definately not as hip, a crt monitor will give you more accurate color for print/prepress work. I have a 21inch crt for art and a 17inch Lcd for all the palettes.
