Over a year ago, the computer lab where I work purchased about 25 new eMacs. In the past few months, roughly 5 of those eMacs have had monitors that stopped working, or else became permentantly distorted. Our techs think it's a problem with some internal wiring. Seeing as our warranty expired *before* the monitors started fritzing, we're going to go ahead and crack the puppies open and see what we can fix.

It's just weird that such a large percentage of our eMac purchase has gone bad so quickly. Does anyone else have any experience/knowlege of eMacs containing bum monitor wiring, or similar problems?

"There has been a widely reported eMac "raster shift" screen defect. The "raster shift" problem causes the bottom third or half of the screen to go black, with the rest of image shifting upward. Serious static also accompanies the problem, rendering the viewable part of the screen virtually useless.

Resolving the eMac "raster shift" issue involves the fairly straightforward replacement of a single component - the IVAD cable. The fix should only be performed by a skilled Apple authorized technician.

Recent eMacs do not appear to suffer from this problem..."
