I'm very seriously thinking about getting a dual G5. If I do it I'm going to get the dual 250 GB HDs and the bluetooth thingie.

Will they do the BTO at a brick and mortar Apple store, or do I need to go to the website?

You can walk into a retail store & tell them you want a machine BTO'd, however, all they'll do is take your order down, take your money, and tell you to come back when it arrives. So either way (the web or retail store), you'll be waiting for your BTO machine as Apple only sells stock configs in the retail stores.

However I can't see why you'd purchased RAM nor a hard drive from Apple when the same things can be had SO much cheaper via 3rd party outlets.

I agree with RAM, but the dual 250 GB price is a good deal. Very good, in fact.

it was when the G5 first was on apple's site, but not anymore. An additional 250gb serial ata drive will run ya $300 now (was $400 about 2 months ago).

the student price to upgrade from single 160 to dual 250 is $472. two of those would run over $600 on newegg, and I'd have to deal with the 160.

well, #1, we're not all students. And #2, you're talking about the difference in your price comparison between 2 250 gb drives @ 500gb for $472 and 2 250 & 1 160 gb drives @ 660gb for $600, albeit you could only get 500 into the G5. But I agree, in your situation, it's not a terrible deal then. However, god knows by the time you actually get your G5 the prcie for a single 250gb drive will have dropped even more...
