Ok, I have gone in and reaplced all four fans at this point, and I must say things are MUCH better. However, I still want to tweak
In case anyone is interested, I have a 867 Quicksilver, GeForce 3, superdrive, and 2 HDs.
Here are the stats on the old fans:
CPU Fan - 12 CFM / ?? dBA
PSU Fan - 38 CFM / 29 dBA
Case Fan - 37 CFM / 34 dBA (or possibly 86.52 CFM / 37.6 dBA as I see different info on two different sites)
And here are the stats on the new fans I have installed:
CPU Fan - 12 CFM / 20 dBA (Vantec Stealth)
PSU Fan - 27 CFM / 21 dBA (Vantec Stealth)
Case Fan - 55.3 CFM / 26 dBA (Papst)
I have been running this setup for a month now, and it is all running smooth (no system freezes todate!). I have been compiling code, running Quake 3, and doing most everyday tasks. It is great.
Now, the PSU fan is still a bit loud (I am surprised, as I would have though it would be quieter). I am thinking of applying a 12v to 7v converter. I am wondering what that would lower the CFM to, and if that might be getting too low. What could happen if not enough air was being pushed out of the PSU (overheat, fire?)
PS: I also replaced the GPU fan with a Iceberq 4 setup. The Fan is silent (I can't hear it at all, and was wondering if it was running at first). the stock fan sucked hard, and was one of the loudest parts in my setup.
