I'm looking for a desk also, preferably something very cool & modern to go with the G5's asthetics.

Any recommendations?

Ikea is good, too. I love my wooden desk that I got at Office Max, though. Here's a pic:

However, I've gotten a new aluminum keyboard, another 21" monitor (dual displays ), and Creature speakers. Things have changed, but I like the desk for it's simplicity. And don't mind the PC in that pic, a G5 is coming soon. (A MDD G4 Tower is missing because I've sold it.)

I've been very happy with my Ikea Jerker computer desk. My cats also like it - one loves to sleep on the built in bookshelf while I work.

http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/s...roductId=20772

i have the Effectiv modular office system or whatever they call it, and i love it. i have the one with the central support beam and T-legs and it's definitely the sturdiest Ikea product i've ever used, and probably more sturdy than desks i've seen at other places. there's 2 in my house (my parents have one for their computer too) and it's great. i'd take some pictures but my room is kind of a mess right now

Here is what my new G5 will sit on.

StudioRTA desk.

I love this thing. My G4 and Windoze PC right now look so good, but with the nice silver of the G5, it will make it look that much better.

Wow is this thread timely! My wife and I were just discussing what type of desk to get for the new G5, and we couldn't come up with any conclusions.

I would be interested in wood - does anyone have anything that looks "right" for the G5 in wood?

Only if the woods are covered by grey/chocoal colored plastic cover sheets...otherwise. forget about it

I just got a desk from an Italian company called Altra. It is a cherry finish laminate top with silver tubular legs and silver-aluminum privacy panel underneath. It looks really nice with my QuickSilver and I think it will look better with my new DualG5 It is really office furniture but very tastefull and has many modular pieces you can buy like bookcase, return desk with keyboard shelf, cpu holder etc. It is very well built and the steel legs look like you could put 500+ lbs on them. Unlike other cheapo laminate products I've come across the top is very glossy with a very hard surface and the edge has a softer matching plasic instead of a hard edge which should wear better. Everyone who has seen the desk has complimented how nice it looks I think Office Depot sells it by special order but I found this place below which had a better price.

I really like the desk from boltz.com Its really nice and goes with the minimalist style of the G5. Very pricey at least with my budget.

We didn't say we hate wood. We just don't like the fact that the wood pattern doesn't match the G5

If the wood is like as what I said before (with plastic sheets coverd) that would be nice

Functionality-wise it seems like a really good desk, but the design reminds me of a baby crib.

Very nice, I like the Boltz too, either one would do a G5 justice. Wood is definitely out for this baby.

Here are my options...

While the color may not be the perfect match, this Kiva Collection desk from Herman Miller is pretty tight.

But I prefer these:
The Pocket Desk

The Dordoni Worktop Table

And the Tavola Glass Table.

You gotta have the proper setup to pull these desks off, though...

I never understood how anyone could use this desk unless you have no legs? I mean I wouldn't be able to sit at one of these for 2 minutes without banging up my chins and taking the equipment out with it.

My G5 will be residing on my Middle Atlantic Edit Center. I'm not sure how I'll shove the G5 into the rack yet, but I love this desk, it holds a great multitude of toys with ease, and there are a wide variety of add-ons and options that make it pretty much perfect for anybody who needs a desk that can hold a few monitors, a few computers, and an assortment of random electronic gear.

OK for you glass and metal lovers here's one:

http://www.cantoni.com

For more traditional and a variety of colors - including wood:
http://www.digitalhubworkspace.com/

These even have a crank to adjust the height of the entire desk to suit you - very cool if not exactly cheap.

mjankor:

Interesting desk, but the problem is that it's from MacMice.com; also known as the same company run by the operator of MacWhispers.com. The latter site is the most unreliable rumour site ever, next to MacOSRumors.com. He was predicting imminent G5 PowerBooks months ago, even though Apple has (now) said that they won't be available in 2003 at all. Anyone who's willing to lie to generate sales isn't worth my business.

I'd recommend a glass table.

I use just a standard glass table purchased at Ikea with my G4 set up. It has painted steel legs that match the silver G4 tower nicely and would work well with the G5 too in my opinion.

The only drawback to this setup is all the electric cords/wires/cables showing.

Sorry all. I didn't know Macmice was run by the macwhispers guys.

I guess you could always get some guy who can work steel to build you something like it. Though it probably should be aluminium.

NOOOOOOO!!!! keyboard trays suck!!!!!!!!!!

For me, all a desk needs to be is sturdy and big.

BTW, I see we have similiar taste in mousepads. I also have a ratpadz. The best mousing surface on earth.

Ratpadz is great. Yeah, I'm not really in favor of keyboard trays, but mine is pretty big. The huge keyboard makes it small . My desk is also pretty big when it's nice and clean..especially if you were to put a nice think Apple LCD on it. My 21" takes up huge amounts of space but is a lifesaver as I do graphic design. Overall, I'm satisfied with the desk as it suits my needs.

I was at the Ikea in Paramus NJ yesterday.
I saw a computer workstation called "Gallant" which I might get.

It was nice and can be configured many different ways.

dawho9 has it right.

I believe this is the Z-Line III. If it's not, they are pretty much identical and the Z-Line is sold at Staples.

I had this exact 'desk' (table) in stone gray. I was also in college at the time....the desk worked, but I would receive a shock half the time I sat down and touched the mouse. This would cause the USB connection do die, and I would have to wait a second before the mouse worked properly.
