I am completely obsessed with the new G5 PowerMac...I almost busted a nut when I first saw the commercial...Since then I've been to the Apple site more than once a day, almost everyday. I am completely seduced by this beautiful machine...I love the new PowerMac look, not saying the old one wasn't good, I dig the brushed metal look. And OMG! I've never really seen a PowerMac open, since this is my first Mac, iMac G4, it looks so much better inside than those piece of crap PC towers, with all their wires and tight spaces. If anyone wants to donate a few thousand dollars, to me, give me an email!

Yeah, I can't wait to get my new dual G5. I check my order status every day in hopes of any changes (on or before Aug. 29 by the way). I wouldn't go quite so far to say that I'm obsessed with it. I may be smitten with her sleek lines and those two tasty, oversized, pouty.. er .. heat-sinks...

OK maybe I'm obsessed too. And if I ever catch you even looking at her - Well don't go there.

Jk

I'm years away from getting one of these G5s too. In about 5 years I might be able to buy one of the first gen. ones.

I have to tell you that I can't wait to get the new G5 - wiith all the trimmings. I am 72 years old, but am a computer nerd, and love to interact with all you young people.

Can you believe it - most of my friends are walking with canes, have gray hair and basically do nothing every day. I, on the other hand, feel very young for my age, go to exercise class daily, color my hair, and love the Macs.

This will be my fifth one - currently I own a G4, 400 Mhz, with 640 ram. I have the 17 inch CRT monitor, but I have my eye on the new 20 inch Apple cinema display.

Dude (ahem, Sir),

72 and getting a G5? I think that's terrific! I'll be officially switched when my dual G5 shows up. I decided to switch after setting up an iMac for my mother (63) and messing around with it for a weekend. I'll have a great development machine and, thanks to Adobe for cross-grading all my video/imaging/print software for $25, it'll be a great video/imaging/print workstation. Counting the days till the end of August and hoping the ship date is reasonably accurate...

I really only need one screen...Plus I don't like the way it looks with multiple screens, but it does remind me of the Matrix Reloaded. And with the screen, the price goes up to $10,065.95...And no one else in my house is a computer person, all they use is Winblows *shudders* so my dad or mom really don't understand just how kick ass the G5 is.

PowerBook G5 would be a nice upgrade for me. I'm currently using the last generation PowerMac (DP 1.25 FW800).

Wow!
You're full of surprises, aren't you?!

And, here I thought I was the 'old' dude on the forum among the young 'uns. I'm 39.

Sometimes, I feel really out of place here, as the mindset is a bit different and, shall I say, less mature.

On Topic: Yeah, I desire a G5, too. But, it'll be a few years, as us older ones have other priorities.

regards,
MAJ

Whoa! 72 and getting a G5. I'm almost 30 and getting a G5, and I figured I was out of the "norm" of 18 year old users. The G5 woke me up to Macs and I'm switching from PC's just for this machine. I've been using PCs for the past 15 years! Suddenly the G5 appears, and I'm a Mac fan. Go figure!

<<Whoa! 72 and getting a G5.>>

Well, I feel young, and look like I am in my early 60's.

I started computing in the early 60's - was the only one who wanted to go to school to learn.

In 1966, the students (in grad school which I worked) showed me their new Mac Plus machines. I was hooked - got my first machine (Mac SE) and well, you know the rest of the story.....

I just turned 19 and am so obsessed with getting a g5. All I've had for the last 5 years is a pentium 2, so it's definetly time for an upgrade.

Believe it or not, until about 2 years ago I was extremely anti-mac. Thanx to my programming teacher in high school and the photo archive I work at, I've been convinced of which is really the light side

WOW! You saw your first Macintosh in 1966?? I wonder who invented the time machine needed to do that?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist...

Seriously, though, when I started medical school (6 years ago), there was a man in my class who was 55, and wanted to start a new career. After 4 years of school and at least 3-4 years of residency, he'll be ready to start practicing medicine when lots of people normally consider retiring.

You are so right about the exercise thing, too. The director of my residency program is 70, and he exercises every day and loves to go skiing, etc. He looks like he's 55.

Out of the "norm?" I'd be willing to bet that our "almost 30" crowd is buying just as many as the 18 year olds are

Same here. I think since I just indulged and bought a PowerBook, I'm going to have to go with the car on this one, but that G5 still looks so tempting... I actually really like what I've seen of the new design, too. Brushed metal/holes don't bother me one bit... actually fits very well with my overall aesthetic.

Clothes for the kids . . . new G5 . . . food for the family . . . new G5. Isn't the choice obvious? I ordered the G5! Who needs to eat when you can render video at amazing speeds?

The G5 is awesome. The machine feels so rock solid (the Aluminum case is built for eternity, the handles are about 3-5 mm thick!). The design is awesome. But they are loud (ok, it was about 35 °C in our office, so they may be a lot quieter at `normal' room temperature).

I fell in love, too, but don't have that type of money right now. I am saving up to get a new machine in two years from now.

Dang, I was really counting on them being quieter. That's why I bought a Cube and an iMac instead of a tower.

I know it's sacrilege to consider one, but do you think a single-processor would be noticeably quieter than a dual?

Oh well, I'll probably get one anyway.

Mam... can you be my new grandma?

haha, nah actually I seriously love my current Grandma, she's awsome, although for the past two years she's has progressively been getting worse and worse, we're pretty sure that she's gona go fairly soon. She's still OK in the sense that she's not about to keel over or anything, but her mind is really gone badly. The only person she always remembers is my dad. I'm probably the second most recognisable person to her, then everyone else kinda fits in after that. I she has to be reminded who my sister is all the time.

But still, that's awsome that you're getting a G5! Good luck with that.

I don't know. Well, it's not mine, I don't open this thing (although I would love to). But all fans are on on all systems. Even my iBook's fan runs at full speed. So this may vary at normal room temperatures (closer to 20-25 °C).
