Hey everyone,
I got a 17" 1ghz iMac this week and have noticed a "shiimmer" along the top 3rd or so of the screen. It's hard to notice at times but other times it's glaringly obvious. The portion of the screen pulses in brightness (darker/brighter/darker/brighter). Has anyone else experienced this? I did some research and it seems like a few others have but I'm just curious as to what could be causing this. It's still under warranty obviously, and I do have apple care so I'm sure I can get the issue corrected. However, it is a bit disconcerting to see such a problem on a brand new machine. Any info you can provide is much appreciated.
Regards,
Dave

my 17" imac 800mhz has similar problem. Top part of the screen is darker than the bottom part. It is very obvious but I can not do anything about it. I trust my panton color book tho

I think you're describing a different phenomenon. I think you're just describing how the top part of the screen is a bit darker than the bottom. Mine is like that too(though the difference is negligible at the proper viewing angle), as is almost every LCD display I've ever seen. I think it's just inherent in the way LCDs are made.
What I'm seeing is the top third or so of the screen actually "pulses" or "flickers" in terms of brightness. The same area of the screen will rapidly change in brightness so it appears to be pulsing. It's only very noticeable when you have a Aqua window right in the area where it occurs(I guess the white makes it show more). I've read that others have had this problem though and a simple replacement part fixed it. Hopefully Apple service will be quick as the last thing I want is to be without my new machine for more than a few days.
Regards,
Dave
